The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) study is one of the largest studies ever conducted in assessing how childhood traumas impact health into adulthood. It found that toxic stress in childhood can dramatically impact brain development and lifelong physical health.
We also know that there are positive factors in people's lives that can protect individuals from these lifetime impacts. These positive factors, often called resiliency, can act as buffers to the traumas individuals face. |
