What is RRP?

Responsible Retailer Program (RRP) is a free, self-monitoring program that recognizes retail licensees who take positive steps to prevent the sale and service of alcohol, cannabis, vaping products, and tobacco to minors and apparently intoxicated persons.

All retailers are welcome to apply for RRP.

Checking ID and Limiting Liability

Clerks and cashiers are the face of your business, and your greatest asset in meeting state compliance laws.

Knowing how to spot fake IDs, having multiple points of ID checks, and identifying signs of intoxication can help limit your business's liability.

RRP will notify you of upcoming local Responsible Sales classes for clerks, cashiers, and servers.

Find out more about training and best practices.

Policy in Action

In 2015, 9 out of 10 alcohol retailers on the Long Beach
Peninsula did not sell to minors during compliance checks.

Those retailers who passed did not accept vertical id.

Partners in Youth Health

Retailers are the front lines of youth substance use prevention. When retailers consistently check ID, teens perceive the community as less favorable to youth substance use.

Another common sense consequence is that youth are less likely to try purchasing.
